TRAINING RIG PROVIDES SAFE PRACTICE FOR ELECTRIC VEHICLE MECHANICS

The electric vehicle market is growing at a record pace, and in its wake, a major shortage of certified vehicle technicians is emerging.

Analysis shows that in the UK alone, there will be a shortfall of 30 000 certified electric vehicle technicians by 2035. Similar figures are found in all countries committed to electrifying transport.

AdaptFuture has developed a portable training rig that could be part of the solution. The rig sends out real traction voltage but almost no current. A simple but brilliant idea that makes it possible to train on servicing electric vehicles without risk to life and health.

The rig fits in a case that easily fits in the back of a car or on a conference table, meaning trainers can get to those who need training, instead of the other way around. Suddenly, training - and by extension, certification - becomes both more accessible and less costly.

HANDY CONTROLLER

The 'brain' of the rig is a very handy controller, fully digital, with no switches or buttons and controlled via an app. The controller is designed so that it can also be integrated into any real vehicle. This means that the training will feel and look very similar to 'live mode'.

Technical validation

Infotiv has had several roles in the project: in technical validation and in creating the information used in the certification sessions.

Magnus de Canesie at Infotiv describes a collaboration that worked very well, where Infotiv contributed by validating the functionality of the training rig to match the systems in a real electric vehicle.

Infotiv's Malin Wranå has developed the communication and information materials needed for training and certification. Her long experience in technology information has played a key role in this part of the project.

Grasp of tonality and technical standards

- Linguistic tonality is important, as well as familiarization with the technical standards available. The result is the design of the certification exam questions and communication materials to instruct and train the certification exam takers.

Infotiv has also been behind AdaptFuture and supported in the dialogues with RISE and with the industry in general. For a relatively new player like AdaptFuture, it is important to have stable and loyal partners.
